Can I give a lender read only access to my bank data?

Yes, most business lenders now accept a read only bank data feed instead of PDF statements and it is usually the faster option. You log in through a bank statement service and the lender receives a read only copy of your transaction history. Check your own bank’s terms before you use one, because banks differ on how they treat credentials entered into a third party page. If you would rather not, statements downloaded from your own internet banking are still accepted across the lenders we work with.

How the data feed works

The lender sends you a link to a bank statement service. You choose your bank, log in through their page and the service retrieves a read only copy of your transaction history, usually going back around twelve months. Providers such as illion state the access is read only and cannot be used to make payments or change your accounts. If you want to check a request is genuine before entering anything, illion publishes a contact number of 13 23 33, available 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday AEST.

If you would rather not

Nobody has to use a data feed. Every lender still accepts PDF statements exported from your own internet banking. If you are uncomfortable entering credentials into a third party page that is a reasonable position to take. It does add a day or two in most cases, because someone has to read them. A middle path is to run the feed on your main trading account only and supply PDFs for the rest. Ask your broker which lenders are flexible on this before an application goes anywhere.
