How do I get the ATO documents a lender needs?
There are two ways to get the ATO documents a lender needs. Ask your accountant or bookkeeper, or download them yourself through myGov in about 10 minutes. Here is exactly what to ask for and how.
What lenders actually need
Lenders usually want to see your position on two ATO accounts, plus any payment plan.
- Activity statement account. Also called the integrated client account or ICA. It covers your BAS, GST and PAYG. Lenders want the transaction listing for each activity statement account.
- Income tax account. Your ITA. Same thing, the transaction listing.
- Payment plan confirmation. Only if you have an arrangement with the ATO. The document that shows the plan total and the instalment schedule.
Option A. The easy way
Email your accountant or bookkeeper and ask for the transaction listing for each activity statement account and income tax account, plus payment plan confirmation if one exists. One email and you are done.
Option B. Do it yourself through myGov
About 10 minutes if your myGov account is linked to the ATO.
- Log in to ATO online services through myGov.
- Select Tax, then Accounts, then Summary.
- Click each account name to open it. You want the activity statement account and the income tax account.
- On the transaction listing page choose the print friendly version, then print and save as a PDF.
- Repeat for each account.
- Payment plans show on the accounts summary. Open the arrangement, choose the print friendly version and save it as a PDF.
- Email the PDFs to your broker.
