Is my bank statement data safe?
Yes. When we ask for bank statements we use illion BankStatements, a read only service that retrieves your statements once with your permission and cannot move money or transact on your account. illion states your login details are never stored. They are encrypted, passed to your bank and discarded. You can verify the service yourself before you use it. The number is below.
What illion BankStatements is
A bank statement retrieval service operated by illion, trading as BankStatements.com.au, based in Adelaide, South Australia. Most of Australia’s major lenders use it. It is the standard way statements move in a finance application, not something unique to us.
What it can and cannot do
These are illion’s own published descriptions of the service.
- Read only. It retrieves data. illion states it cannot make payments, move money or change anything on your account.
- One time, with your consent. It runs once, only when you authorise it.
- Your login is not stored. illion states credentials are encrypted, passed to the bank, then discarded. Not kept.
- Encrypted. illion states data is protected with 256 bit encryption secured by 2048 bit keys, which it describes as the same level the banks use.
What gets collected when you use it. Transaction history, balances and the account holder name, for the accounts you choose. Read only and one time, with credentials never stored.
Verify it yourself
You do not have to take our word for it. illion’s customer line is 13 23 33, open 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday AEST. Call them or read illion’s own security page before you connect anything.
Prefer not to use it?
You can send PDF statements the traditional way instead. It is slower and means more back and forth, but the choice is yours. We will never insist on a method you are not comfortable with.
Not sure where you sit?
Tell us what you need the money for and we’ll give you a straight read on what’s actually available to you.
