Can I withdraw a business loan application after submitting it?
Yes, you can withdraw a business loan application at any point before you sign the loan contract and no lender can force you to proceed. A phone call followed by an email to your broker or the credit contact is enough. What you cannot undo is the credit enquiry, which stays on file, along with the information the lender has already collected about your business. Fees already incurred are a separate question.
What stays behind after you withdraw
The application itself disappears from the queue. The credit enquiry does not. It usually sits on your file for around five years whichever way the application went. Lenders can see it, though a single enquiry with no default behind it rarely changes an assessment. The lender also keeps the documents you supplied under its own record keeping and privacy obligations, so withdrawing does not mean the file is deleted. You can ask what is held and how it will be used.
Costs you may still owe
Withdrawing is free in most cases, though not always. If a valuation has already been ordered, a legal file opened or an application fee paid, those costs are often non refundable because the work is done. Read what you signed at the start, since some letters of offer carry a commitment fee once accepted. Pulling out before acceptance is cleaner than pulling out after. If the reason you want out is a term you do not like, say that first, because the terms are sometimes negotiable.
